The Culinary Challenge returns as one of the flagship events of the 18th Philippine Food Expo 2026, bringing together the country’s most promising culinary students and educators for a three-day celebration of skill, creativity, and professional excellence. Happening on April 17–19, 2026 at the World Trade Center, Metro Manila.

The Culinary Challenge, organized under the Philippine Food Expo, serves as a vital platform that bridges classroom learning and real-world culinary practice by mirroring industry standards, encouraging innovation, and nurturing the next generation of Filipino culinary talent. 

The competition is open to currently enrolled students and faculty members from culinary schools, colleges, universities, and hospitality and tourism management programs. Participating institutions can gain national visibility, recognition for culinary excellence, and a meaningful benchmark for aligning academic training with professional practice.

The Culinary Challenge strengthens collaboration between culinary schools, colleges, and universities across the Philippines, while fostering healthy competition and professional growth among students and faculty alike. Participants gain hands-on experience that reflects the realities of hotel, restaurant, and tourism operations. At its core, the Culinary Challenge emphasizes:

“Bounty of the South: Davao on a Plate”

This year highlights the richness of Southern Philippine flavors, with a particular focus on Davao’s regional ingredients, heritage dishes, and culinary identity. Across most categories, participants are challenged to reinterpret local flavors using modern techniques while maintaining cultural authenticity. 

The competition features a diverse set of categories that test a wide range of culinary and hospitality skills:

• Food Styling & Photography: An on-the-spot food styling competition which aims to showcase the combination of art and culinary skills of each student. 
• Philippine Regional Table Setting: Participants shall set-up a 2-seater table judged by their hospitality, service, and thematic presentation.
• Creative Filipino Dessert Platter: An on-the-spot cooking competition where participants must create a creative Filipino dessert platter using local flavors.
• Healthy Pasta: An on-the-spot cooking competition where participants must create a nutritionally balanced Filipino-inspired pasta.
• Kitchen Masters (30-Minute Challenge): A time-pressured, on-the-spot cooking competition.
• Pinasarap Breakfast: An on-the spot cooking competition where participants must create a “Balanced Pinoy Breakfast Meal”
• Mystery Ingredient: An on-the-spot cooking competition focusing on Davao Regional Dishes using Mystery Ingredients.
• PFE Knowledge Challenge: Academic quiz bee to test the knowledge of student tandems on local  food and beverage, geography and tourism.

The grand opening ceremony of Noel Bazaar 2024 was attended by various distinguished guests, including Ms. Mayose Gozon-Bautista, the President and CEO of Cut Unlimited, Inc., and the Honorable Imelda Calixto-Rubiano, the Mayor of Pasay City. The event kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring key figures from the corporate world and the entertainment industry, including GMA Kapuso ambassadors Kylie Padilla and Kyline Alcantara, who added star power to the festivities. Their participation captured the excitement of shoppers looking to kick off their holiday season on a high note.

This year’s theme, “Winter Wonderland,” beautifully set the stage for the festive atmosphere. Attendees were treated to an impressive lineup of performances and activities. Popular artists such as Jennylyn Mercado, Ashley Sarmiento, Marco Masa, and Pokwang took the stage, entertaining guests and elevating the holiday mood. Unique experiences, such as live mud-shadow art performances by Mr. Percy Denolo and cooking demonstrations by chefs like Abi Marquez and Ninong Ry, delighted visitors and made the event all the more memorable. Fashion shows from Tiddletots and Xclamation Agency added a chic touch, showcasing the latest in holiday fashion.

A standout feature of this year’s bazaar was the introduction of Pets’ Day Out, where pet lovers could bring their furry friends to enjoy a pet buffet and various fun activities. This new addition reflected the bazaar’s commitment to creating an inclusive experience for families, ensuring that both two-legged and four-legged guests could partake in the joy of the season.

As the Noel Bazaar closed its doors at the World Trade Center, it offered a plethora of festive shopping options, from unique gifts to delightful decorations. Shoppers left with an abundance of holiday treasures, fueling the spirit of giving that defines the season.

Looking ahead, the Noel Bazaar is set to have its final leg at the Filinvest Tent in Alabang, running from December 12 to 15, with operational hours from 11 AM to 9 PM each day. This venue will provide additional opportunities for those who wish to find last-minute holiday gifts and enjoy the festive offerings.

This year’s ADAS is poised to be the largest event in the series, with a focus on showcasing the Philippines’ ongoing modernization program and its efforts to establish a credible deterrence against any form of aggression or threat.

The grand opening ceremony was attended by high-ranking government officials, headed by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., and other dignitaries from the defense and security community.

The event’s keynote speaker, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., emphasized the importance of strategic decision-making in the defense sector, highlighting the Philippines’ clear understanding of its needs and priorities. “The Philippines knows what it needs and what it wants. We know what we don’t need and what we don’t want. But what we don’t need and don’t want, other countries may want. So, let’s join hands to produce in this country, sustainably, what the Philippines needs and wants, and what other countries need but we don’t want. Fair enough?”

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., through his Chief Executive’s message, highlighted the pivotal role of ADAS in enhancing security not just in the Asia-Pacific but globally. “Over the past decade, ADAS has evolved into a premier platform for dialogue and collaboration among governments, military institutions, and defense contractors. This evolution underscores our shared understanding that the complexities of modern security threats cannot be effectively addressed in isolation.”

According to APAC Expo’s Managing Director, Andrew Marriott, “Aside from gaining insights into best practices, ADAS also assists in future procurement selection and planning. Networking with global industry counterparts provides a unique insight into future developments and gives manufacturers visibility into creating more efficient products for the challenges faced by the Philippines.”

The event will feature live demonstrations, product presentations, and networking opportunities with global leaders in defense and security. A series of symposiums and panel discussions will also offer expert insights into trends, innovations, and strategies shaping the future of defense and disaster management in the region.

Among the key highlights of the event are discussions on asymmetric warfare, information security, cyber defense, and cyber security, as well as demonstrations of advanced defense technologies such as naval ships, platforms for maritime patrols, and multi-role fighters.

The Philippine Department of National Defense (DND) has intensified its efforts to establish a credible deterrence against any form of aggression or threat through its Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept (CADC). The DND is also pursuing the modernization of physical assets and hardening infrastructure of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The AFP chief of staff, Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., stressed that the country is looking for big-ticket items that will allow its military to comply with CADC. These include naval ships for the Navy to have an effective presence in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), platforms for maritime patrols, and multi-role fighters that augment the existing fleet of FA-50PH light combat aircraft.

As Asia’s defense and security community comes together at ADAS 2024, this event will play a crucial role in shaping the future of defense and security in the region. With its focus on collaboration, innovation, and strategic decision-making, ADAS 2024 is poised to be a landmark event in Asia’s defense calendar.
