Philippine Commercial Vehicle Show 2024 happened at SMX Convention Center from July 18-20, 2024.

On the first day of PCVS 2024, they held a Road Transport Summit which tackled significant topics.

One of the topics discussed was about crowded roads, road crash incidents, the suspension of no contact apprehension policy which according to Atty. Binoya is a double-edged sword, the proliferation of colorum operation, and illegal parking.

During Atty. Binoya’s talk, he mentioned how deterrent drivers were in committing traffic violations during the time that NCAP was not yet suspended. However, because of its suspension, traffic infringements had increased in more than 100%.

This huge number of traffic offenses was monitored through the CCTVs of MMDA last 2023. This also means that many Filipinos do not oblige traffic laws.

“Special operations group were created to address the proliferation of colorum operation and illegal parking. We have intensified the anti-colorum operations and cleared roads with illegally parked vehicles.” – Atty. Binoya

MMDA considered five (5) things to solve these issues and to be able to manage the transition of foreign transportation:

• Improve MMDA command center;

• 5-year action plan for traffic management;

• Implementation of the single ticketing system;

• Equip traffic personnel with body-worn cameras; and

• Reevaluate traffic police to adapt to the current transportation in Metro Manila.

On the other hand, Atty. Don Mañebo from HATAW (Haulers and Truckers Association in the Watersouth) raised his concern regarding the trucking industry. He saw unprecedented growth in the cargo transport sector as well as the growth of e-commerce and e-markets.

“Modernization is not just replacing your trucks and equipment, it is also about training your personnel, your drivers, your helpers, your entire staff, and the entire company.” – Atty. Mañebo

Road safety, efficiency, and sustainability were also brought up by Atty. Mañebo during the summit.

Many speakers said that they were looking forward to a more inclusive future in the industry.

Now that there is a shortage of drivers, several speakers were glad to know that the trucking industry is becoming more inclusive for female drivers.

Some of them said that it is great to see BUSINA (samahan ng kababaihan) in the conference.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 12 recently concluded its “6th Treasures of
SOX: A Travel and Trade Expo” at the Midtown Atrium of Robinsons Place Manila in
Ermita, Manila. The three-day event, which ran from June 7-9, 2024, aimed to
showcase the best of the SOCCSKSARGEN region, comprising South Cotabato,
Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos.

The event featured a wide range of products and services from the region, including
Tnalak clothing and bags, brass accessories crafted by the Tboli of Lake Sebu, sweet
pomelos freshly harvested from Cotabato province, and premium Robusta coffee from
Sultan Kudarat. All four provinces and four cities in the region participated in the event
to present their tourism products to the public.

According to DOT-12 Director Nelia Arina, the event is not only a travel show but also
an opportunity to showcase the region’s treasures, including its abundant resources,
skilled people, and growing economy. “This expo is one way to promote the region’s
unique attractions and experiences, such as the white sand beaches of Sarangani and
the cultural experience of Lake Sebu,” she said.

The event also featured a fashion show titled “Fabrics of SOX,” showcasing the designs
of local designer Jearson Demavivas. Additionally, an investment forum was held to
attract investors to the region. The event included B2B matching sessions to facilitate
business partnerships between local businesses and investors.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco reiterated that SOCCSKSARGEN is open to both
international and local tourists from other regions. “We are ready in terms of security
and infrastructure,” she said. However, she noted that some areas in the region still
require assistance in terms of road network development.

The Treasures of SOX Expo is an annual event that aims to promote tourism in the
SOCCSKSARGEN region. The event has become a significant platform for local
