Cebu City, Philippines — SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC) is bringing its signature brand of event excellence to the Visayas with the launch of SMX Convention Center Seaside Cebu, a landmark project rising at South Road Properties (SRP). With a total investment of ₱5.3 billion, the venue is set to open in the third quarter of 2026, setting a new benchmark for convention facilities in the region.

Operated by SMX Convention Center, the largest convention center operator in the Philippines, the new facility will offer over 40,000 square meters of gross floor area, including 21,000 square meters of flexible, leasable event space—making it the biggest SMX venue in the country.

SMX Convention Center Seaside Cebu will rise beside SM Seaside City Cebu, within the dynamic South Road Properties (SRP) district. Its prime location offers direct connectivity to major lifestyle, retail, and hospitality hubs, and convenient access to key infrastructure such as the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) and Mactan-Cebu International Airport. As part of a larger master-planned area that includes future developments like the SM Seaside Arena, the venue is strategically positioned to support high-volume, high-impact events with regional and international reach.

The project is part of a phased development that will also feature a three-star hotel and the upcoming SM Seaside Arena, reinforcing Cebu as a complete, integrated MICE and entertainment destination.

SMX Seaside Cebu is designed to empower Cebu to attract a broader portfolio of international and regional events that were previously exclusive to Metro Manila. With scalable halls, professional support services, and world-class amenities, the venue will provide organizers the capacity, credibility, and convenience needed to mount successful events—whether for 100 or 10,000 delegates.

“This is our response to the long-standing demand for a convention venue of this scale in Cebu,” Wafik added. “Soon, Cebuanos and visiting delegates alike will no longer need to fly to Manila for major exhibitions, summits, or concerts—the experience will be right here.”

The official groundbreaking ceremony of SMXCITE was held on April 4, 2025, marking a bold step forward for SMX Convention Center and strengthening its leadership in the country’s fast-growing MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector. When completed in early 2027, SMXCITE will introduce over 18,000 square meters of leasable trade hall space to the SMX portfolio—effectively doubling the capacity of SMX Convention Center Manila. Together, both venues will offer over 35,000 square meters of flexible exhibition and event space within a single destination, further positioning the SM Mall of Asia Complex as the country’s premier hub for international exhibitions, trade fairs, and large-scale business events.

Purpose-built to meet international standards, SMXCITE will feature five expansive exhibition halls, designed to accommodate up to 803 standard 3×3-meter booths. Complementing these are four fully equipped meeting rooms, ideal for breakout sessions, closed-door discussions, and strategic planning engagements. Two dedicated VIP lounges will provide an elevated experience for top-level executives, dignitaries, and private delegations—reflecting SMX’s commitment to corporate hospitality and seamless service.

The venue will comprise two modern buildings constructed simultaneously, each capable of hosting over 18,000 guests and engineered to support large-format events for both local and global audiences. Sustainability is also central to the development—SMXCITE will incorporate natural lighting, energy-efficient infrastructure, and environmentally responsible design principles aligned with SMX Manila’s eco-conscious benchmarks.

With this expansion, SMX Convention Center’s total leasable footprint across its national network will grow to nearly 60,000 square meters, spanning key cities including Manila, Taguig, Mandaluyong, Clark, Olongapo, Bacolod, Cebu, and Davao.

MANILA, Philippines, 25 September 2024 – ADAS 2024 opened today with Philippines’s ongoing Modernisation Programme taking centerstage. Not on its 10th Anniversary in the Philippines, ADAS 2024 will be held from September 25-27, 2024 at the World Trade Centre, and is poised to be the largest event in the series. Organized by APAC Expo, the biennial event is supported by the Department of National Defense, National Security Council, and the Office of the President under its Bagong Pilipinas advocacy.

Themed “Building on a Decade of Defense Capability”, this established event is positioned to be the Philippines’ flagship tri-service event, providing a complete overview of the next phase of modernization programmes across the tri-services. More than 15,000 senior government officials, industry leaders, regional VIP delegations, and academia are expected to converge on the event to explore capabilities in asymmetric warfare, information security, cyber defense, and cyber security that can effectively adapt to the rapidly evolving defense landscape.

“As the Philippines, through the Department of National Defense (DND), intensifies its efforts to establish credible deterrence against any form of aggression or threat, we are pursuing the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept by modernizing the physical assets and hardening the infrastructure of the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” said DND Spokesperson, Defense Assistant Secretary Arsenio R. Andolong. “In building up our defense systems, equipment, and skill sets, we look forward to collaborating with our stakeholders through various engagements and activities, including events such as ADAS 2024.”

ADAS Symposium

The ADAS Symposium centers around two main themes, namely: “Evolving Asymmetric Warfare in the South China Sea: Regional Perspectives on Security and Strategy” and “Strengthening Cyber Defense Capabilities amid Emerging Threats”. Spanning two days, each theme collectively delves into a spectrum of specialized topics including mosaic/asymmetric warfare, cybersecurity threats, cyber warfare, and defense as well as a session on building local capacity.

As part of the commemoration of Philippines National Cyber-Security Month in September, local and international delegates can all look forward to networking and sharing their unique challenges and experiences with their industry counterparts from the region which encourages greater understanding and collaboration on future initiatives.

The Symposium will host prominent Government officials, industry leaders, and academia at this two-day conference.

ADAS Trade Exhibition and Other Activities

Now in its 5th edition, ADAS’s presence has expanded and now showcases the latest innovations within the tri-service sector. ADAS’s trade exhibition will showcase the latest developments and key upgrades in capability for the Navy, Airforce, and Army.

Spanning 14,500 sqm, the exhibition has attracted the participation of over 250 exhibitors from some 35 countries.

Participating global companies include MKU, Saab, and Lockheed Martin for tri-services, Lignex-1 for ammunition and tri-services, Aselsan for army, Navantia and HD Hyundai for navy as well as Airbus, Turkish Aerospace and Korea Aerospace Industries for air forces, to name a few.

This year’s trade exhibition sees a 35% increase in country pavilion participation from the Czech Republic, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, The Philippines, South Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Slovakia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, United States of America.

ADAS’s Managing Director, Andrew Marriott said, “Aside from gaining insights into best practices, ADAS also assists in future procurement selection and planning.
