DRDO at Asian Defence and Security Exhibition (ADAS) 2024

Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), The R&D Wing of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India is participating in the ADAS (Asian Defence and Security) Exhibition 2024, one of the largest defence exhibitions in Asia. The upcoming Asia Defence & Security (ADAS) 2024 exhibition promises to be a landmark event in the defence and security sector. Scheduled to take place from September 25 to 27, 2024, at the World Trade Centre in Manila, Philippines, ADAS 2024 is set to be a major gathering of industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators from across the globe.  DRDO’s participation in such exhibitions showcases India’s advancements in defence technology, innovation, and self-reliance in the defence sector.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is primarily engaged with the development of technology for Indian Armed Forces and services with the goal of ‘Make in India and Make for the World’ like Missiles and missile-based Air Defence System, Light Combat Aircraft, Main Battle Tanks, Gun System, UAVs, Counter UAVs System, Multi barrel Rocket Launcher, Radars, Naval Systems and Soldier Support System. In doing so with its industry production partners, DRDO has catalysed the military-industrial ecosystem in India.

DRDO is specialized in specific areas such as aeronautics, armaments, combat vehicles, electronics, instrumentation, engineering systems, missiles, materials, naval systems, and life sciences. Some of its significant achievements include the development of the Agni and Prithvi series of ballistic missiles, the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, and the Arjun Main Battle Tank. DRDO has also been instrumental in developing nuclear, biological, and chemical defence systems, missile defence systems, and advanced radar and electronic warfare systems upgrading India’s defence capabilities. DRDO works with leading academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners for innovation and technology transfer. DRDO ensures that India remains at the forefront of technological advancements in defence, contributing to the nation’s strategic security and establishing India as a key player in the global defence sector. Through its relentless efforts, DRDO continues to safeguard India’s sovereignty and integrity.

DRDO is going to showcase the models/translit of following flagship products at the prestigious defence show.

1) Arjun MBT Mk-1A – Arjun Main Battle Tank Mk IA, developed indigenously by DRDO has enhanced India’s self-reliance in Armoured Fighting Vehicles. It is a dependable war machine built with modern battle tank technologies.

2) AEW&C– Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) system is a true force 2 multiplier, with surveillance, communication, and electronic warfare capabilities. A system of systems for detecting & tracking of enemy/hostile aircrafts/UAVs etc.

3) MBRL Pinaka – Pinaka, the Multi Barrel Rocket Launching system, is an all weather indirect fire, free flight, artillery weapon system capable of delivering a large volume of fire in a very short time for neutralizing critical and sensitive enemy targets.

4) Helicopter launched NAG (HELINA) is a third-generation fire and forget class anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) system mounted on the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH). The system has all weather day and night capability and can defeat battle tanks with conventional armour as well as explosive reactive armour.

5) AKASH is a Short-Range Surface to Air Missile system to protect vulnerable areas and vulnerable points from air attacks. AKASH Weapon System can simultaneously engage Multiple Targets in Group Mode or Autonomous Mode. It has built in Electronic Counter-Counter Measures (ECCM) features.

6) Torpedo Advanced Light (TAL) is an electrically propelled self-homing torpedo and can be launched from ship and rotary wing aircraft. It has both active and passive modes of operations, and all digital control and guidance systems. TAL is an anti-submarine weapon, which can attack submarines in shallow waters & deep waters.

7) Identification Friend or Foe System (IFF) consists of three variants namely Interrogator, Transponder and Combined Interrogator Transponder (CIT). DRDO has designed and developed all the three variants as per the typical configuration available in International market.

8) SMS-X Submarine Sonar Suite is an integrated suite of sonar systems for installation onboard submarine. It is a compendium of multiple sensors for passive detection, which collates different characteristics of the same target and provides target data through information fusion. Its features include all-round superior performance with simultaneous panoramic surveillance coverage. It is capable of detecting, localizing, tracking multiple surface and subsurface targets.

DRDOs participation in ADAS 2024 is an opportunity for the country to showcase ‘Made in India’ products, technologies and systems to the world. Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO extended his greetings and best wishes to the organisers and participants and grand success to the mega event. He hoped that ADAS 2024 will provide an appropriate platform for exchange of ideas for collaborative approach in continuing the legacy of India-Philippines Defence Relations, opening new arenas of Defence Cooperation and enhance DRDO’s potential to market its products and networking with decision makers.
